Liposuction Q & A
What is smart liposuction?
Smart liposuction, also known as laser lipolysis, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure designed to minimize extra body fat, tighten skin, and improve the appearance of cellulite. Smart liposuction is different from traditional liposuction in that it doesn’t use suction. As a result, it’s gentler, safer, and presents less scarring.
Additionally, smart liposuction generates high levels of heat. This triggers your body’s natural healing process, encouraging circulation, tightening skin, and boosting the production of newer, healthier cells. This ensures positive results and prevents side effects associated with traditional liposuction like uneven contours and sagging skin.
Am I a good candidate for smart liposuction?
Only a qualified aesthetic professional like Dr. Henry can determine if you’re a good candidate for smart liposuction. That said, there are certain guidelines she recommends, including:
Being within 30 pounds of your ideal body weight
Having firm, healthy skin
Having good muscle tone
No history of chronic medical conditions
Having realistic goals for treatment
If you’re thinking about undergoing liposuction, it’s also important that you quit smoking. Smoking isn’t just bad for your respiratory health, it also increases your risk of complications following surgery.
How does smart liposuction treatment work?
Dr. Henry performs smart liposuction treatment on-site as an outpatient procedure. Before starting treatment, Dr. Henry administers a local anesthetic to numb the area of your body being treated. Once the anesthesia sets in, she makes a small incision near a pocket of body fat and carefully inserts a thin tube called a cannula through it. Inside the cannula is a special laser. The laser heats up and melts the localized fat deposits. After the fat melts, it’s absorbed by your body and processed through your lymphatic system.
Is smart liposuction treatment safe?
Smart liposuction is safe and well-tolerated, but it does present certain risks. The most common side effects people experience are bruising, swelling, scarring, and infection. To lower your risk of these and other complications, make sure to follow Dr. Henry’s recovery instructions carefully. This means taking your medications as prescribed, getting plenty of rest, and attending all of your follow-up appointments.
